One Year Old!

Will, I can't believe it, my darling. You are a year old. Ok, more like 13 months old. The last year has been an utter whirlwind (*). It seems like just yesterday you were an itty-bitty (ok, not so itty-bitty) newborn and now you're practically a grown up.

You are cruising a bit, and can walk with help from a friend or your go-go. You know a few words beyond mama and dada now (hi/bye-bye, ball, dog, night-night, up/down, etc.) and communicate your needs very clearly with an impressive set of lungs. You eat a ton, and vegetables are your favorite food. Well, maybe vegetables and cake, but you would take broccoli over cheese any day. Which probably explains why you're pretty svelte (holding steady at 75th percentile for height, 50th for weight).

You are getting into anything and everything, and climbing like a champ. There is this whole realm of babyproofing gear I never understood until you got to be mobile. Why would anyone need a lock on their toilet?! Now I know. Yes, darling, you're teaching me so many things.

Like your sister, you love music, and you've been attending music class with her since before you were born. Any kind of beat sets you to wiggling, and you love to bang your drum. You are currently fascinated with dumping and filling. You really enjoy trial and error with what fits into what, and it's amazing how quickly you figure it out.

And oh my goodness, you are a love. You are constantly engaging people in conversation at stoplights, and you coax coos out of grumpy old curmudgeons in seconds. You crawl all over at playdates and music class, paying visits to old friends and new. And though you spread the love around so freely, when you see me and you light up even brighter, it really makes my day.

I love you, too,
Mommy

* In case you're thinking you look a bit young in these pictures, that's because most of them were taken in May, almost three months ago. That's what happens when you have two beautiful kids, apparently; you never take any pictures of them. Thank goodness other people do (thanks, Corrie!).
