Belly Button

This is a picture of my belly button. I show it to you as evidence of the first of what will no doubt be many times when I tell my parents, I told you so.
(editors' comment: right after her father took several moments to get exactly the right picture of Janie's belly button for this post, perhaps longer than she wished, she left another editorial comment on the fresh diaper placed beneath her while she waited.)

Bath

Yesterday, I was given my first bath. I say "given," because I did not, by any means "take" it. I did not take it lying down. I did not take it sitting still. I did not take it at all. I'm learning that some things in life you willfully take, like milk, and some you are given, like baths and the size of your feet.

Needless to say, such a gift did not go without comment from your author. Right after Daddy asked Mommy, "do you think maybe we should put her in a diaper," and Mommy responded, "oh, no, she's been so upset, let's give her a moment," I deposited an editorial comment of my own all over the oh-so-cute yellow receiving towel with monogrammed ducks and teddy bears that Mommy was so enamored with.

Don't mess with the bull, Mom and Dad, you'll get the horns.

Apparently,

I received my looks from my mother. Apparently, I received my feet from my father.

Psst

I'm breaking out tonight. I've dyed this jailbird sleeper the same color as these sheets, and I'm going over the wall. Who's with me?

Baby has healthy body image

Today, I made my second visit to the pediatrician in 4 days of life. Apparently, my parents found some issue with my belly button, and needed it checked out. Of course, there was no issue except for the persistent neurosis of my co-payment happy mom and dad. Freaks.

On the upside, I got to go on the freezing doctors scale again and I gained an ounce since my first visit, and my dorky mother slapped high five with the doc. Very embarrassing.

I was unimpressed. I'm perfectly happy to be gaining weight. So you guys can rule out anorexia for your next excuse to haul me into a doctor's office for no reason, which apparently will occur at the rate of one day out of every two. Whatever.

(editors' note: Jane was born at 8 lbs 1 ounce, and weighed 7 lbs 5 ounces upon her first doctor's visit, which was well within the normal range. She is now at 7 lbs 6, and on the upswing, which is also good. Janie's belly button is indeed fine, however she has had the hiccups several times today and we're looking for an appointment.)

Aunt Sarah

I just wanted to send some props to my Auntie Sarah. She came to cheer on Mom at the birth, and just made things so much easier for Mom and Dad. I couldn't care less about how clean the house is, but Mom wanted everything just so when I came home. Aunt Sarah must've instinctively known this (wondertwin power) -- she cleaned the house, cooked dinner, and played personal photographer to yours truly.
All this the weekend before she starts her PhD program. Wow.
Thanks, Aunt Sarah! We love you.

See?

I told you they were big.
